About Me

My name is Jim, and I have lived in Edinburgh for over 25 years.

I have worked in the mental health field for many years in a variety of roles, including as a mental health nurse.

My passion has always been to work with the person, not the diagnosis or label. I believe everyone deserves to be met with curiosity, compassion and acceptance, whatever has brought them to counselling.

Throughout my career, I have seen how difficult experiences can leave people feeling as though they are simply getting through each day. I believe that having the right support and space to explore those experiences can help people move towards a fuller and more meaningful way of living.

I am a trained person-centred counsellor offering counselling in Edinburgh, as well as online counselling via Zoom across Scotland and the UK.

I provide daytime and evening appointments throughout the week.

Over the years, I have supported people through a wide range of emotional and mental health difficulties. Many have come to counselling while navigating significant life changes, anxiety, depression, loss, identity issues, low self esteem and relationship challenges.

I have a particular interest and experience in working with trauma, people living with early-onset dementia, and those facing complex emotional distress.

My approach is compassionate, non-judgemental, and tailored to each person’s unique experiences and needs.

Alongside my counselling work, I am also a performing artist.

This gives me a deeper understanding of the pressures, uncertainty, isolation and emotional demands that can come with creative and performance-based careers.

I understand how difficult it can sometimes feel to balance personal wellbeing with the demands of this type of work.

“When a person dares to show their inner most self, inner most vulnerabilities or deepest shame…

And the other can sit with this, stay with it and communicate a complete acceptance and ability to be open with it.

Then an amazing quality comes to the relationship and the person can become closer and more accepting of them self.” Jim Campbell
